Bonnie Jean Gabel is a theater maker, creative consultant, and arts educator. Her original performance explores social justice and queer femme identity through theater, dance, and sound. Her work has been nationally supported and presented in galleries and at regional festivals, but it is rooted locally, focused on embodying liberatory collaborative practices in the rehearsal room and through performance.
She has directed numerous pieces including six original ensemble-written works, and two co-created two-woman performance pieces. She has collaborated extensively with visual artists (Parse Gallery New Orleans, Gallery 5 Richmond) and musicians (Dave Watkins, The New Resonance Orchestra and members of the Louisiana Philharmonic) to create work that is interdisciplinary and genre defying. Her production of The Soldier's Tale was nominated for a Big Easy Award for Best Creative Achievement in Classical Music. Her work has been seen in galleries, historic homes, city parks, classrooms, coffee shops and (occasionally) on stages
